Het A4’tje van het briefpapier is mijn bouwplek. Met behulp van een aantal elementen, waaronder foto’s van een huis (dat van de opdrachtgever) in aanbouw, heb ik op elke huisstijldrager (briefpapier, envelop, visitekaartje) opnieuw iets gebouwd, steeds een ander bouwsel met behulp van deze ‘bouwstenen’. Verder zijn op het briefpapier en het visitekaartje de hulplijnen te zien, zoals ik ze, werkend op de computer, in beeld heb. Deze lijnen zijn virtueel, ze bestaan enkel in de computer als hulp bij het uitwerken van je ontwerp. Hier wilde ik ze op het eindproduct zichtbaar maken: mijn bouwproces in beeld.
Niet het eindpunt, maar de reis, om met een van mijn favoriete motto’s te spreken.
I created this house style by approaching A4-sized stationery as a ‘building site’. Selecting from a set of elements – ‘building blocks’ – including pictures of a house under construction (owned by the commissioning party), I managed to ‘build’ a different kind of ‘building’ for each particular house style application (stationary, envelopes, business cards). Furthermore, I also deliberately left the guiding lines (as they appear on my screen while I’m designing on my computer) in the end design of the stationery as well as the business cards. These are normally just virtual lines, they exist only in the computer as an aid in the design process. Here I wanted to make them visible in the finished product: visualising my own building process. “It is not the destination that is important, but the journey there”, is one of my favourite mottos.
