a book about a hundred years … | een boek van honderd jaar …
Thema van het boek: The art academy of the 21st century. Vergezeld van een catalogus verscheen het boek als een update naar de volgende eeuw, in een verpakking ontleend aan die van software-updates heb ik de inhoud niet als hoofdstukken maar als een aantal boeken in het boek behandeld. Ik vond het belangrijk beeld toe te voegen aan wat anders teveel een tekstboek was geworden. Book One: the virtual conference, met bijdragen van personen die niet bij het symposium konden zijn en geïllustreerd met beelden van een conferentietafel zonder deelnemers. Book Two: Looking back, moving forward, over de geschiedenis van de academie. Book Three, A Nomadic Book, een boek dat dwars in boek twee ligt, over een Kawamata project: de nomadische academie. Book Four: The Conference. Dit deel is geïllustreerd met video-stills uit een registratie van die conferentie. De limited edition is speciaal handgemaakt voor Koningin Beatrix.
The book’s theme: The Art Academy of the 21st Century. Accompanied by a catalogue the book appeared as an update to the next century and was therefore also packaged as such, that is similar to a software update. Its content was therefore also not categorised in chapters but in books within a book. I also felt it was important to add images to the book in order to prevent it from becoming too much of a text book.
Book One: The Virtual Conference
with contributions by people who were not able to attend the symposium and therefore illustrated with images of an empty conference table without participants.
Book Two: Looking Back, Moving Forward, about the history of the Academy.
Book Three: A Nomadic Book, a book which lies sideways within Book Two and offers an account of a Kawamata project: the Nomadic Academy.
Book Four: The Conference ‘The Art Academy of the 21st Century’. This part is illustrated with video-stills from a registration of the conference.
The limited edition was especially handmade for the then reigning Queen of the Netherlands Beatrix.
