WARS – not the promised land | niet het beloofde land

Een verkenning van het boek als driedimensionale ruimte en een poging tot samenhang door benadrukken en aan het licht brengen van juist het fragmentarische karakter van de inhoud. Dagboekfragmenten leiden een zelfstandig leven naast foto’s – de teksten zijn niet een toelichting van de beelden, de beelden zijn niet een plaatje bij de tekst – het zijn twee parallel lopende sporen en beide sporen verhalen op eigen wijze van mijn reizen door Polen. Boekjes ín het boek trachten de lezer op een dwaalspoor te zetten, achter uitklappagina’s wacht het onvoorziene. Een boek waarin je zou moeten kunnen verdwalen. An exploration of books in general as three dimensional spaces as well as an attempt for coherence by stressing and revealing precisely the fragmentary nature of the content of books. In this case, the diary excerpts stand alone as well as the photographs do – the texts are not an explanation of the images, neither are the images just accompanying the texts. In their own way they both represent two parallel story lines, in fact track records, accounting of my travels through Poland. The booklets within the book are an attempt to lead the reader astray, behind pop-up pages the unexpected lies awaiting. A book in which one should be able to get lost. Self-printed and -bound, Coptic binding method.
