Onix bouwt in Eelderwolde twee appartementen die als een N.U.F.O. (Not Unidentified Flying Object) bovenop een bestaand gebouw zijn geland. Maar daar gaat het hier niet over, hier gaat het erover dat die appartementen om elkaar heen gevouwen liggen, zó, dat aan de buiten- en binnenkant onduidelijk blijft hoe het zit. Alex van de Beld maakte dat met een handgebaar (on)duidelijk en dat gebaar staat op het omslag, nee, de omslagen van dit boekje. Het zijn er eigenlijk twee en het is een beetje onduidelijk hoe ze toch één verhaal vertellen, het verhaal over die twee appartementen. De vorm wordt je toegeworpen, wie zei dat nog maar?
Onix designed two apartments in the small town of Eelderwolde (the Netherlands), which both seem to have landed as NUFO’s (Non Unidentified Flying Objects) on top of an existing building. But that’s not what this is about, what’s happening here is that these two apartments ingeniously intertwine with each other in such a way, that it is left unclear – whether you’re inside or outside the buildings – how this design actually works. Alex van de Beld made that (un)clear through a hand gesture, which was subsequently used as image for the cover (or better the covers) of this book. Because there are in fact two books, leaving it – again – a little unclear how they able to in fact tell only one story, the story about those two apartments that is. A perfect example of ‘Visual Function’, who was it who wrote a book about that anyway?
