Tien jaar ‘rural art’ door Richard Saxton, woonachtig in Boulder bij Denver maar actief tot in Groningen. Door de ruimte van het boek als landschap te benaderen ontstonden er ‘velden’ waar de projecten als ‘gewas’ hun plek konden krijgen. Er is gestreefd naar variatie in de presentatie van tekst en beeld vanuit een onderliggend stramien – als de voren in de pas geploegde akker. Staat het gewas eenmaal op het land, ziet dat er ineens heel anders uit! Aardappelvelden afgewisseld door graan en mais, want mais, dat hebben ze in Nebraska (waar Richard vandaan komt). Hi Ha, move ’em on, head ’em up! Rawhide!

Ten years of ‘rural art’ by Richard Saxton, an artist based in Boulder near the city of Denver (USA) yet artistically active as far as the province of Groningen (the Netherlands). By approaching the book’s space as a landscape, ‘fields’ were generated each harbouring different projects such as ‘Crops’. The objective was to create as much variety as possible in the presentation of the book’s texts and images based on an underlying format – like the furrows of a freshly ploughed field. Once the crops are on the fields, everything looks different! Potato fields alternate with grain and corn, because corn, you know there’s plenty of it in Nebraska (where Richard comes from).
