Voor Linie Tramwajowe stippelde ik een tramroute uit in Warschau. Een traject dat mij vanzelf weer bij het beginpunt terugbracht. Deze route heb ik twee keer afgelegd, een keer ’s nachts en een keer overdag. Eén film in de camera: die wordt tijdens de eerste (nacht)rit belicht, teruggespoeld en de volgende (dag)rit opnieuw belicht. Het resultaat, twee negatieven elk ter lengte van een kleinbeeldfilm over elkaar op één filmstrook, heb ik afgezocht op interessante uitsnedes. Het zijn er acht geworden. Grensoverschrijding is hier het trefwoord, deze opnamen zijn ontstaan in een poging de grenzen van het negatief te overschrijden. Formaat: 90 x 120 cm.

For a project titled Linie Tramwajowe (Polish for Tramline), which was submitted to the Noorderlicht Photo Festival 1997, I mapped out my own tram route in the Warsaw tram network. A route which would automatically bring me right back to the point where I started from. I took this tram trip twice: at night as well as during daytime, covering it both times with only one reel of film in my camera, which was first exposed during the night trip and subsequently – after rewinding it – a second time during a day trip. Afterwards I scanned the result, consisting of two parallel negatives – each the length of an ordinary 35mm film roll integrated in one stretch of film – for interesting cut outs, finally selecting these eight clips. Crossing boundaries is the keyword here: these images were created and developed in an attempt to push the limits of the negative. Size: 90 x 120 cm.
